My blog-with-purpose goal is simple. I want to explore the art and craft of adventure, discuss my personal outdoor experiences and encourage others to get outside and explore.
When I launched Jeff Bartlett Media, I opted to move my old Adventure Freelancer blog posts onto the new site. I also kept its mission statement: blogging about the art and craft adventure. Last week, I penned my creative new years resolutions. My 5-goal list included blog with purpose, so it’s definitely time that I reorganize and redesign this site.
I don’t just want to publish more articles, but I want each post to make an impact. Over the next year, I’ll only post my best adventure stories, photography tutorials, gear reviews and travel guides.
The JBM Blog Categories
In case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve just redesigned my entire website. While I love the new layout, I’m even more excited to finally simplify the blog.
The old site had been cluttered, with menus and categories causing confusion rather than improving the reader experience. Now, I’ve narrowed my focus to just four categories:
Adventure
The Adventure category used to three subcategories, which I’ve eliminated.
Moving forward, this category will only be reserved for adventure photography galleries and narrative stories. They’ll be the feature posts, written or photographed in the same way that I’d complete a magazine assignment.
Photography
My Photography category will focus, primarily on tutorials, workshop opportunities and photography contests.
To get a feel for the style, and to improve your photography workflow at the same time, check out the How-to series I wrote last fall:

Reviews
My gear-driven Reviews section is changing, too. It used to have three subcategories: outdoor gear, camera gear, and sponsored gear. While I’ve combined all three into a single group, I plan to continue with the same content plan. For all sponsored gear, I will be transparent and inform you that it’s a product I’ve been asked to review.
On that note, I will also be posting more affiliate links. Rest assured, I will only post them on gear that I have or would spend my money on. I won’t promote things that I don’t believe are worth it.
Travel Guides
Three Travel Guide subcategories – adventure, photo, and road trips – have been grouped together.
Looking ahead, I want to share more adventure guides. These won’t have a photography focus. Instead, I will highlight unique adventure opportunities like my hike across Kyrgyzstan or my experience in a bikepack race. In my photography guides, I’ll share location specific suggestions for photographers. Titles will be similar to 12 Must-See Photography Locations in the Faroe Islands or 10 Landscape Photography Locations in Banff National Park.
