Old-school Fiat 500 cars are dear to my heart. They’re still all over the road in Argentina and I’ve always dreamed of racing one in the Mongol Rally. When I first discovered Martina Bisaz’s images, it was because I stumbled upon a photo of her classic Fiat 500 in the Swiss Alps.
I was immediately hooked, but I soon learned that Martina’s instagram photography goes well beyond the boundaries of her tiny car. As a photographer and archeology illustrator based in Zurich, Switzerland, stunning natural beauty surrounds her and her photography reflects her passion for the nearby landscapes.
Gramming under the username @KitKat_Ch, Martina has been on instagram for 3.5 years. While photography is still her hobby, it’s slowly becoming a bigger part of her life. In 2013, she won a contest that pulled her away from her favorite subjects – her Fiat 500 and the Swiss Alps – to the USA. Luckily the contest seemed to understand her penchant for rad rides, as she traveled the west coast in a restored VW Westfalia.
When asked about her favorite setup, Martina didn’t list a variety of equipment like most photographers. Instead she rattled off her dream weather conditions:
“I like it foggy or snowing, or cloudy. At least party cloudy, as pure blue sky seems boring and makes it difficult to get a nice shot in the middle of the day.”
She also mentioned her dream shot – a backlight tent beneath the northern lights. And watch out, as I expect Martina to land this image when she visits Iceland in 2015. She’s already planning to upgrade from her iPhone5s to a dSLR setup, which will help make low-light photography that much easier.
