After crossing the Empty Quarter Desert, it’s fair to call Leon McCarron a seasoned adventurer but it’s wasn’t always the case. At the age of 23, Leon pedaled his overloaded bicycle out of New York City and onto The Road Headed West.
It was his first big adventure, and like many similar journeys, The Road Headed West was born from a innate curiosity.
“Like all big decisions, the hardest part was actually doing it, beginning,” says Leon. “I’d been moderately happy and moderately comfortable for a long time. But I realized at some point that there was something missing, something along the lines of challenge.”
Now, Leon McCarron has taken a collection of his personal journal entries, photographs and video footage, mixed in with his own memories of kind strangers, gun-toting ranchers, and riding partners, to turn The Road Headed West into his first book.

The book launched today – Monday, July 7 – and it is available for sale from LeonMcCarron.com:

Due to my own bike adventure – which will be underway as you read this – I haven’t had a chance to read more than the first few chapters of Leon’s book. Based on the little I’ve read and on the entertaining trailer, I know Leon can tell a good story.
I look forward to reading the rest of his journey as soon as I return home.
