I finally met Chris Burkard this week. He’s been running around Alberta, capturing stunning images. We crossed paths during an evening shoot at Athabasca Falls and I quickly saw just how passionate and driven he is as a photographer.
Watching him work was magic.
I’ve photographed Athabasca Falls a dozen times. It’s a beautiful landscape, but within minutes Chris asked if I knew any kayakers. I made a few calls, convinced a local paddler to drive out to meet us, and we transformed the landscape into an adventure portrait.
It was great working with Chris for such a short time. I learned a good lesson – to be deliberate and always ask for more. Don’t be satisfied with less than the perfect image.
Check out these links to see some of Chris Burkard’s recent work. The guy loves cold water.

Chris also just won the Banff Mountain Film Festival Photo Essay category with images from the above project.
That image of the kayaker is beautiful, do you have a higher resolution version?
I took the photo on a Nikon d800. I have a 36 mp raw file! Why were you asking?
I was asking because I would love to have it as a wallpaper, and 800×800 doesn’t quite suffice 🙂
Come back October 1st and you shall have it! I do a monthly wallpaper every month.
Sweet! You just earned yourself a subscriber! I saw your pic on instagram this morning posted by @ourplanetdaily and after a bit of googling came across this site. You have some beautiful work man, keep it up!
