In May, I visited Machu Picchu and finally ticked that major destination off my bucket list. Considering it’s a pretty easy destination to visit – considering it’s just a 4-hour train ride from Cusco, Peru – it took me nearly a decade longer to visit than I expected.
It took me three attempts to reach Machu Picchu. I planned a trip in 2004 but ultimately couldn’t afford more than a few weeks skiing in Argentina and Chile. Again in 2007, I planned to travel the length of South America from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Cartagena, Columbia. That particular trip, as is often the case, was sidelined in Mendoza, by a girl who’d soon enough become my wife.
Thanks to The Giving Lens, the third time was the charm!
