November was quite the month; however, my time at Jökulsárlón, in Iceland, stands above all other experiences. It’s likely a highlight of 2014, so I wanted to make this Jökulsárlón Desktop Wallpaper for December 2014.
It’s difficult to describe the sheer beauty of Jökulsárlón. A glacier, nearly 10 times larger than the Columbia Icefield, descends into a salt water lagoon. As the ice breaks off, small icebergs – which are still absolutely massive pieces of ice – float out towards the Atlantic Ocean.
It’s possible to photograph two different locations. The Jökulsárlón lagoon looks towards the glacier. It’s also where both of these images were made; however, just across the road there is a black sand beach where many of the icebergs become trapped. The translation of its name is diamond beach, as the crystal clear ice formations look like diamonds sitting against the dark contrasting beach.
I couldn’t recommend Iceland enough and no trip to the land of Fire and Ice would be complete without visiting Jökulsárlón, so why not add it to your desktop this month and to your bucket list moving forward?
