I met Matt Long, who goes by the name @LandLopers on most social media platforms, at the Sierra West Ranch on Alberta’s Cowboy Trail. We were working on separate projects; however, the atmosphere at Sierra West calls for story sharing across the dinner table, so we were soon swapping travel tails and blogging tall tales. It turns out along with running the uber-popular Land Lopers blog, Matt is also a wicked photographer with a growing IG feed.
It was immediately apparent that Matt has me beat in most story-telling contests. As experiential luxury traveler, Matt Long shares his adventures with thousands of readers every day through his award-winning site LandLopers.com. Diagnosed with a bad case of the travel bug, Matt travels the world in order to share tips on where to go, what to see and how to experience the best the world has to offer. Based in Washington, DC, Matt has been to more than 65 countries and all 7 continents.
Although Matt’s @Landlopers account has been on IG for the past three years, he didn’t dedicate much time to the growing platform until 2014. He know considers it his favorite social media channel:
“It’s a great way to get travel ideas and, of course, to be inspired,” said Matt. “For me, it’s another way to share my story and to specifically showcase my photography, which sometimes gets lost on other social media platforms.”
Despite his affinity for fun city themed travel photography, Matt still considers Antarctica as his all-time favorite destination. No matter where he travels, he shoots on a variety of photography equipment. His primary choice is often the easiest to carry – his iPhone5s – but he also uses both a Nikon D5100 and a GoPro.
