I ventured south to Calgary to kick off a winter-themed Explore Alberta Instagram Adventure the day after I completed my return visit to Whistler Blackcomb. The previous trip, called #Alberta1X1, took place back in September. Although the only returning participant was Lauren Bath, the trip was setup in a similar fashion.
We had few items on the itinerary. Four eager photographers, @LaurenEPBath, @WissLaren, @Punkodelish, and @MeetJulian, completed the roster and @DavidGuenther joined us for a few days.

My initial reaction is to call it the best trip ever. All the participants became fast friends and our shooting styles meshed well. There were few gaps in conversation and laughter. Everyone was sad to see the trip end, but here is how it unfolded:
We kicked off our Explore Alberta Instagram Adventure with an instameet at Hotel Arts in Calgary. On Sunday afternoon, we welcomed 30 of Travel Alberta’s favourite #explorealberta instagrammers to join us on a photowalk through downtown Calgary. After the event, we all enjoyed networking beers and dinner.
After wrapping up in Calgary, we headed towards the Canadian Rockies. The trip flowed nicely. As we approached the mountains, photo stops became more frequent. Five days and four nights between Lake Louise, Banff, and Canmore meant we had plenty of opportunity to capture the stunning scenery. We even managed to go skiing at Lake Louise Ski Resort, snowshoeing across Bow Lake, and ice skating on Lake Louise before jumping in a helicopter for a flight over the Kananaskis Country.
By the time we headed back to Calgary, we were all exhausted. But we still had one more day on the itinerary, which we used to explore the Alberta Badlands. Though not as stunning as the Rocky Mountains, the badlands offered up an often overlooked beauty that exists throughout the province. We photographed farmland, horses, and the occasional dinosaur. Only in Alberta!
I owe a huge thanks to Travel Alberta and their many partners that made this trip possible. Guiding this group of photographers was such a rewarding experience. Thank you!
