Friday Films: The Art of Nature

October 3, 2014 by Jeff B. Leave a Comment

I love a good story, especially when a brand I love jumps on board to support it, so I was stoked to learn that Simon Beck’s artwork is finding a permanent home. His Art of Nature collection, which he meticulously makes by walking on snowshoes, will find a permanent home on Icebreaker’s latest line of clothing.

The Art of Nature, in progress.

Simon Beck creates intricate artwork with his snowshoes on vast fields in the Swiss Alps. Beck maps out geometric designs, waits for fresh snowfall and no wind before trekking eight to 10 hours to complete each design.

The Art of Nature being builtSimon Beck’s regular job is as an orienteering mapmaker. Originally from southern England, in 2004, Beck, 55, bought an apartment in the Les Arcs ski resort in the French Alps to spend his winters. Soon afterwards, he began creating intricate, awe-inspiring artwork using a vast snowfield as his canvas.

Check out the video that Icebreaker commissioned to highlight Simon’s work.
