Fresh off my first trip along Alberta’s Cowboy Trail, I just had to share this image for my July Desktop Wallpaper. I absolutely loved this unique slice of Alberta prairie and rolling foothills. Whether it was the world famous Longview Jerky Shop or the ranch style cabins at Sierra West, the entire area just felt uniquely western Canadian.

More About Alberta’s Cowboy Trail
The Cowboy Trail runs from Cardston to Mayerthorpe, Alberta, through the rolling foothills of the Canadian Rockies. It certainly isn’t Alberta’s biggest attraction; however, Alberta’s Cowboy Trail is becoming a popular regional destination. Dude ranches, rodeos, and aboriginal pow-wows invite visitors to experience the region’s way of life, while locations like Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump put its history into perspective.
The Cowboy Trail also provides plenty of access points to explore the Canadian Rockies: Highwood Pass (highway 40) loops west from Longview, through Kananaskis Country, and rejoins the TransCanada Highway; old Highway 1A heads towards Banff National Park from Cochrane; and the David Thompson Highway (highway 11) connects Rocky Mountain House to the Icefield Parkway at the Saskatchewan River Crossing.
