I am just over a half month late with my September desktop wallpaper post; however, that feels like a rather pessimistic look at the situation. The month still has two weeks left and I am leaning towards making the next 15 days as full as possible.
Autumn in the Canadian Rockies is a magical time of year. Typical September weather means high pressure systems and stable temperatures ideal for completing big days in the mountains. The colours turn, too, creating stunning golden yellow hillsides thanks to a combination of Larch and Aspen trees. This autumn seems slightly different. It’s been wet and wild so far, with numerous snowfalls at higher elevations before the leaves have even turned. There is fear that winter is about to descend and rob us of the wonderful shoulder season, when crowds are rare and paths are clear.
For me, it barely makes a difference. I feel like I’ve missed the entire Canadian Rockies summer thanks to some fantastic work opportunities and personal travel. Tomorrow, I depart on the first of two back-to-back trips that will have me on the road until mid-October. By then, winter will likely be here.
With that in mind, I want to share my favourite view in the entire Canadian Rockies. Edith Cavell in Jasper National Park is a truly iconic peak and it’s photographed from different angles every day. I think this overlooked corner of Cavell Lake is best.
