I’ve never felt so inspired to push my landscape and wildlife photography. I just returned home from leading a dream trip, an Antarctica Photo Workshop with Polar Latitudes and the crew Brendan van Son put together. It offered incredible photo opportunities and was a perfect reminder of why I love leading workshops. There is no greater reward than helping people capture images they’ll cherish.
Looking ahead to 2023, I am determined to grow my photo tour and workshop business here on Vancouver Island. It’s an incredible landscape with old-growth forests that inspired Canada’s environmental movement, rugged coastlines, high mountains, and endless wildlife and marine life.
While I’m busy planning different itineraries – my 2023 Vancouver Island Photography Workshops be announced soon enough – I wanted to provide a sneak peek at what I am working on:
Sunset in Tofino Half-day Photo Workshops

I hosted a series of these workshops in Tofino last summer. I am just finalizing dates for this year’s events; however, the workshops will be slightly different this year.
The changes include nixing the sunrise options. They weren’t popular last year, and sunrise often failed to materialize through the fog. I still love shooting at that time of day, but it’s impossible to count on good light.
I am also lowering the costs this year. These workshops will be offered at just $250 and are limited to five participants.
Sea And Summits Three-Day Photo Workshops

My friends Simon Baxter and Rachael Talibart call their joint workshop the Surf and Turf, so now mine will be known as Sea and Summits.
I moved here two years ago because I love Vancouver Island’s diverse landscapes. In my mind, it’s the ultimate collection of mountains, forests and ocean. My goal for these workshops is to show participants all three, focusing on the areas I know best in the Comox Valley and around Campbell River.
I will offer these workshops for small groups or as 1-on-1 options.
Week-long Vancouver Island Photography Workshops

I cannot wait to offer longer format workshops, too, but they’re a work in progress. I am sorting through all the logistics, from itinerary options to permits and permissions. They’ll be based on Vancouver Island, but we’ll spend time exploring stretches of mainland, BC, that you didn’t even know existed!
They’ll be incredible, trust me. Remember, patience is a virtue!
Workshop vs Tour?

Photography workshops and photography tours are sometimes different. The former promises education, while the latter focuses on bringing photographers to iconic photography spots.
My Vancouver Island photography Workshops are a hybrid. We’ll review our cameras, talk tech, and dial-in camera settings for various situations. We’ll also focus on capturing some incredible images, which means being in the right place at the right time.
On longer trips, we’ll also have time to dive into post-processing. On one-day workshops, we’ll only focus on field time.

Good evening, I am travelling to Vancouver Island with my husband in May of this year. John is a fairly well-known seascape/landscape photographer here in Ireland. We will be staying in Ucluelet from the 28th – 30th of May and I’m just wondering if you are doing any one day workshops around then? Or do you do one on one day trips? It would be great to get some local information and the best places to visit. We were on the island a few years ago and loved the beaches up to Tofino.
Look forward to hearing from you
